Solar in Chelmsford

Chelmsford’s newest affordable homes all have solar on the roof.

In July 2026 Chelmsford City Council announced the completion of 24 affordable homes at Reservoir Close, delivered by registered provider Delta Housing with £1.44 million of investment from Homes England and the council. The scheme is split between 12 shared ownership properties and 12 affordable rental homes, including seven three-bedroom houses, four four-bedroom houses and one wheelchair-adapted property, built using a fabric-first timber-frame approach. Every home is equipped with solar panels, heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points, and each achieves an Energy Performance Certificate rating of Band B or higher.

We are based on Coval Lane, so Chelmsford is home ground for our engineers. If your own system was fitted years ago rather than months, a service will confirm it is still producing what it should, and if you want to keep more of that output for the evening, battery storage is a straightforward addition to most existing arrays.

Why L&R

What you get from L&R in Chelmsford.

Chelmsford is home

Our office is at 2 Coval Lane in the city centre, so Chelmsford’s roofs are the ones we know best. The city’s solar sits on the 1930s semis of Moulsham and Broomfield, the 1970s and 80s estates at Chelmer Village and Springfield, and the new homes at Beaulieu and Channels, with clay tiles far more common than slate. Essex is one of the driest and sunniest parts of Britain, so a healthy system here should be generating well. What holds it back is usually dust and pollen on the glass, bird droppings, or an original feed-in tariff inverter reaching the end of its life.

Questions

The things people ask before they ring.

Not answered here? Call 0800 156 0191, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.

Do you cover Great Baddow, Springfield, Writtle and Danbury?

Yes. Our engineers cover the whole of Chelmsford and the CM postcodes, and the rest of Essex. Call 0800 156 0191, or drop in — the office is at 2 Coval Lane, Chelmsford CM1 1TD, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.

My installer has gone out of business. Can you take over my system?

Yes. We repair and service systems fitted by any installer, including installers who are no longer trading, and we work on any make of panel, inverter or battery. See solar panel repair and solar panel servicing.

How long do solar batteries last?

Most home batteries are lithium-based and designed for years of daily charging and discharging. The manufacturer states a cycle life for each model, and how hard the battery works day to day affects how long it lasts. When we quote a battery we tell you what to expect from that model, in writing. See battery storage.
