Solar in the North West
The Liverpool City Region is funding solar and batteries on social housing.
In September 2026 the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority set out a £5.5 million Photovoltaic and Battery Fund to put solar panels and batteries on social housing across the city region, alongside a proposed £5 million plug-in solar pilot, with both going to its 25 September meeting for approval. The fund runs until August 2027, more than 40 registered housing providers have already expressed interest, and the combined authority named firms in Wirral, Knowsley and Sefton among the local supply chain. It sits within a wider £120 million, five-year programme that has retrofitted around 12,000 homes.
Social landlords are pairing panels with a battery because storing daytime generation for the evening is what makes solar stack up. The same logic applies to an owner-occupier anywhere from Warrington to Lancaster: if you already have panels, battery storage is the natural next step, and a service first makes sure the array is worth building on.

Why L&R
What you get from L&R in the North West.
We know North West roofs
Much of the North West’s solar sits on the slate and tile roofs of terraces and semis, with newer estates around the towns. West of the Pennines is one of the wetter parts of England, so moss, damp and nesting birds are part of looking after panels here. Many of the systems we’re called to were fitted in the feed-in tariff years and are now on their original inverter.
