Solar in Stockport
Cheadle’s new eco park will be all-electric, with solar on every unit.
In July 2026 Stockport Council reported that the timber frame was going up at Cheadle Eco Park, a new business park on Bird Hall Lane. The seven-acre site, once home to older industrial buildings, will provide six units for growing businesses and is expected to support around 200 jobs when it is completed in March 2027. It is expected to be the largest purpose-built industrial and logistics scheme in the country with a structure made entirely from sustainably sourced timber, delivering a 40% reduction in embodied carbon, and it is supported by the Government’s Town Fund. Tony Fox, technical director at Network Space Developments, said every unit will be “all-electric, with VRF heating and cooling, rooftop solar PV, smart building controls and EV charging”.
All-electric with solar on the roof is the direction plenty of Stockport homes are heading too, from Cheadle Hulme semis to Edgeley terraces. If your panels are already up, a service shows what they are really producing before a heat pump adds to the load, and battery storage lets you keep more of the daytime output for the evening.

Why L&R
What you get from L&R in Stockport.
We know Stockport roofs
Stockport’s roofs follow its history. Edgeley, Shaw Heath and Reddish are red-brick terraces from the mill and hatting years, with chimneys and rear offshoots to plan shading around. The Heatons have larger Victorian and Edwardian semis and villas, and some streets sit inside conservation areas that need checking before anything goes on a roof. Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall and Hazel Grove are mostly inter-war and post-war semis and detached houses that take a tidy array, and Brinnington adds post-war estates. Out east, Marple and Romiley have stone cottages on the edge of the Peak, where Pennine rain and grime cut output if the panels are never cleaned.

Not answered here? Call 0800 156 0191, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.
Do you cover Cheadle, Bramhall, Marple and Hazel Grove?
Yes. Our engineers cover the whole borough of Stockport — the town centre, Edgeley, the Heatons and Reddish, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Gatley and Bramhall to the south-west, Hazel Grove and Offerton, and Marple, Romiley, Bredbury and High Lane to the east — plus Poynton just over the Cheshire border. Call 0800 156 0191 or tell us your postcode in the fault finder and we’ll confirm cover.
Will you repair a system in Stockport that another company installed?
Yes. We repair and service systems fitted by any installer, including installers who are no longer trading, and we work on any make of panel, inverter or battery. See solar panel repair and inverter repair.
Can I have solar panels on a house in one of Stockport’s conservation areas?
Often, yes, but it depends on the roof and whether the building is listed. Stockport has 37 conservation areas, where panels on a roof slope that faces the street can need planning permission, and a listed building needs listed building consent. We check this before the survey and tell you where you stand, and every install is by our own MCS certified engineers. See solar panel installations.
