Solar in Warrington

Warrington Hospital is getting 996 solar panels.

In February 2026 Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals announced more than £1 million of funding from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and Great British Energy, as part of a major national decarbonisation programme to support the delivery of clean energy. It will pay for 996 solar panels at Warrington Hospital, generating around 450,000 kWh of electricity each year, and for LED lighting improvements at Halton Hospital. The award is part of a wider £74 million programme to upgrade energy technologies and improve energy efficiency across public buildings. Chief executive Nikhil Khashu said the investment “not only supports our goal of achieving net zero carbon by 2040 but will also enable us to reduce energy bills”.

A hospital puts panels up to cut its bills, and so does a household in Great Sankey or Stockton Heath — but only while the system keeps working. If your generation has dropped or the inverter is showing a fault, start with solar panel repair; if it is healthy, battery storage lets you use more of what it makes in the evening.

Why L&R

What you get from L&R in Warrington.

We know Warrington roofs

Warrington grew twice, and its roofs show it. The older town is red-brick Victorian terraces in Latchford, Howley and Bewsey, with chimneys and rear offshoots to plan shading around, and bigger Victorian and Edwardian houses in Stockton Heath. Then the new town years brought whole estates in Birchwood, and later Westbrook and Callands, with large, simple roofs that suit a full array. Great Sankey, Penketh and Grappenhall are streets of inter-war and post-war semis, and Lymm’s village centre is a conservation area to check before anything goes on a roof. Across the Mersey, Runcorn’s new-town estates and the terraces of Widnes add more of the same mix.
