Solar in Liverpool

Liverpool plans solar on the Cunard Building.

In April 2026 Liverpool City Council set out plans to take the Cunard Building, one of the council’s biggest carbon-emitting properties, off gas-fired boilers and onto the Mersey Heat district heat network, with solar PV panels to be installed on the roof subject to a structural survey. The council expects the connection alone to cut its emissions by more than 330 tonnes of CO2e a year. Detailed designs are complete, enabling works are under way, and Cabinet was asked to approve funding for the next design and works stage as part of the city’s commitment to reach net zero by 2030.

The council is putting panels on a historic landmark; the principle is the same on a semi in Allerton or a terrace in Wavertree, because they only pay if they keep working. If your inverter has started showing fault codes or the display has gone blank, inverter repair is where to start, and adding battery storage lets you use more of what you generate rather than exporting it.

Why L&R

What you get from L&R in Liverpool.

We know Liverpool roofs

Liverpool’s solar sits on the red-brick Victorian terraces of Anfield, Wavertree and Kensington, the 1930s semis of Allerton and Childwall, the post-war estates at Speke, Norris Green and Kirkby, and the larger houses around Sefton Park and Woolton. The Mersey and the Irish Sea are never far away: wind loads the fixings, salt in the air works on connectors and isolators, and gulls perch and nest on arrays. Many of the systems we’re called to were fitted in the feed-in tariff years and are on their original inverter.
