Solar in the Midlands
Coventry is starting a solar rollout across fifteen schools.
In June 2026 Coventry City Council confirmed that planning applications had been submitted for solar panels on the first three of fifteen schools: Grange Farm Primary in Finham, Manor Park Primary in Cheylesmore and Tiverton School in Whitley. The work is being delivered through the council’s strategic energy partnership with E.ON, backed by £2.3 million of Government funding, and the council’s stated ambition is solar on every school in the city. Cllr Lynnette Kelly, cabinet member for jobs, regeneration and climate change, said the aim was to cut energy bills and make schools more resilient to sudden gas and oil price rises.
Those school roofs will be new installs; across the Midlands, from Coventry and Wolverhampton to Derby and Stoke, most home systems are ten or fifteen years old, which is when faults creep in.
