Solar in Nottingham

Nottingham has £7.4 million to put solar and insulation into private homes.

In February 2026 Nottingham City Council announced it had secured £7.4 million from the Government’s Warm Homes: Local Grant, its share of almost £18 million available to all eight councils across Nottinghamshire. The money is expected to support more than 420 privately owned homes in the city over the next two and a half years, running until March 2028, with measures including insulation, solar panels, double-glazed doors and windows and air source heat pumps. The council’s earlier schemes have supported more than 1,200 private properties since 2021, and the announcement featured households in Clifton and St Ann’s that have already had the work done.

If you are one of the Nottingham households that already has panels, whether from an earlier council scheme or your own installer, the panels themselves rarely fail but the inverter does. We repair systems from any installer, and if you want to hold on to more of what you generate, battery storage can be added to most existing arrays.

Why L&R

What you get from L&R in Nottingham.

We know Nottingham roofs

Nottingham’s solar sits on the red-brick terraces of Sneinton, Radford and Lenton, the Edwardian villas of Mapperley Park and the Park, the 1930s semis of Wollaton, Carlton and West Bridgford, and the big post-war estates at Clifton and Bilborough. The city is hilly on its north side, so shading from neighbouring roofs and trees matters more in Mapperley and Sherwood than on the flat Trent side. Inland weather is kinder than the coast; what we find most is dust, moss on north-facing edges and inverters reaching the end of their life. Many of the systems we’re called to were fitted in the feed-in tariff years and are on their original inverter.

Questions

The things people ask before they ring.

Not answered here? Call 0800 156 0191, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.

Do you cover West Bridgford, Beeston, Arnold and Hucknall?

Yes. Our engineers cover the whole of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, from Mansfield and Newark to Long Eaton and Derby. Call 0800 156 0191 or tell us your postcode in the fault finder and we’ll confirm cover.

My Nottingham installer has stopped trading. Can you still look after my system?

Yes. We repair and service systems fitted by any installer, including installers who are no longer trading, and we work on any make of panel, inverter or battery. See solar panel repair and solar panel servicing.

What size solar battery do I need?

It depends on how much your panels generate, how much electricity you use and when you use it. A battery that’s too big never fills; one that’s too small empties before the evening is over. An engineer looks at your generation and your usage before we recommend a size. See battery storage.
