Solar in the South West

Bristol is fitting solar to schools and community buildings.

In April 2026 the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority announced that Bristol City Leap would install solar panels on five public and community buildings in the city — Avonmouth Church of England School and Nursery, Kingsweston School, Whitehall Primary School, Stockwood Children’s Centre and M Shed — over the following months. The initial installations add up to 143.33kWp and are expected to save around 171.51 tonnes of CO2 over their lifetime, funded through the Mayoral Renewables Fund and Bristol City Council’s Revolving Energy Efficiency Fund, with Ameresco UK delivering the work.

From Bristol down to Cornwall the South West gets plenty of sun and has some of the oldest domestic solar in the country, much of it now well past its tenth birthday. A service confirms whether yours is still earning its keep, solar panel repair sorts it if it is not, and we cover the whole region with our own engineers.

Our work

Real jobs by our own engineers.

Why L&R

Why South West homeowners come to L&R.

Sun, salt and Atlantic weather

The South West gets some of the best sunshine in Britain, which is why so many homes and farms here went solar early. It also gets salt air on two coasts and the first of the Atlantic storms, so connectors, isolators and roof fixings take more punishment. Alongside house roofs we expect barns, outbuildings and ground-mounted arrays, and gulls on almost all of them.
