Solar in Bournemouth

Bournemouth Pavilion could be next for solar panels.

In August 2026 the Bournemouth Echo reported that a planning application had been submitted to BCP Council to fit solar panels to Bournemouth Pavilion, the Grade II listed venue on the seafront beside the Pleasure Gardens. Operator BH Live proposes a horseshoe layout of vertically mounted panels, positioned so they cannot be seen from the ground or from nearby hotels, to keep the building’s traditional look while helping BCP Council’s decarbonisation plan and securing the venue’s long-term future. The panels would support the Pavilion’s day-to-day running across its 358 operating days a year, with public consultation on application P/26/03159/FUL open until 25 August.

If a listed building on the seafront can carry panels, most roofs in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch can too, and many already do. A coastal roof takes a beating, so a periodic service is worth having, and if you are weighing up a new system, our own MCS-certified engineers handle the design and the install.

Why L&R

What you get from L&R in Bournemouth.

We know Bournemouth roofs

Bournemouth has some of the highest sunshine hours in Britain, so solar here earns its keep. The housing is mostly Edwardian villas and 1930s semis across Winton, Charminster and Southbourne, bungalows across Poole and Christchurch, and the flats and new-build that have filled in along the coast. Two things matter more here than inland: the sea, which throws salt and sand at south-facing roofs and shortens the life of connectors and isolators, and the gulls, which nest under arrays given the chance. Many of the systems we’re called to were fitted in the feed-in tariff years and are now on their original inverter.

My Bournemouth installer has stopped trading. Can you still look after my system?

Yes. We repair and service systems fitted by any installer, including installers who are no longer trading, and we work on any make of panel, inverter or battery. See solar panel repair and inverter repair.

Can you add a battery to the solar panels I already have?
