Solar in Southampton

Southampton has put solar on The Quays.

In December 2025 Southampton City Council announced that new solar PV panels had been installed at The Quays Swimming and Diving Complex, paid for with an £89,000 award from Sport England’s Swimming Pool Support Fund topped up by £25,000 of the council’s own money, a total investment of £115,000. The council expects the array to generate around 90,669 kilowatt-hours of electricity a year and to cut the pool’s carbon emissions by roughly 16 tonnes annually. Councillor John Savage, Cabinet Member for Green City and Net Zero, welcomed it, and the council describes the project as part of its wider net zero commitment and of keeping community facilities sustainable for the long term.

A pool roof and a house roof in Southampton get the same sun, so the same question applies to a system fitted during the feed-in tariff years: is it still producing what it should? A service will tell you, and if the inverter has failed, inverter repair is usually the quickest way back to generating.

Why L&R

What you get from L&R in Southampton.

We know Southampton roofs

Southampton is one of the sunniest cities in the country, so a well-placed array here should be generating strongly. Its solar sits on the Victorian terraces of Portswood and Shirley, the 1930s semis of Bitterne and Bassett, the post-war estates at Millbrook and Thornhill, and the newer homes around Hedge End and Whiteley. What we watch for is the water: Southampton Water and the Solent are never far away, so salt haze dulls glass and works on connectors, and gulls treat arrays as a perch. Many of the systems we’re called to were fitted in the feed-in tariff years and are on their original inverter.
