Solar in Hampshire
Hampshire’s councils are fitting solar to their own buildings.
In March 2026 Winchester City Council said it had already installed 2,171 solar panels across the district, mostly on its own buildings but also at the Biffa Winchester depot, Winchester Sport and Leisure Park and Marwell Zoo, generating over 500,000 kWh a year. The next site under its council-led Solar for Business scheme is Winchester Science Centre, where it has identified the potential to generate 150,298 kWh a year, roughly the electricity used by 56 homes. Funding comes from the Community Infrastructure Levy, agreed by cabinet on 12 March, subject to surveys and planning approval, and follows the centre’s switch from oil heating to air source heat pumps.
From Basingstoke to the New Forest, Hampshire has plenty of home solar dating from the feed-in tariff years, and much of it is now ten to fifteen years old. That is the age at which an inverter typically gives up, so if generation has fallen or stopped, inverter repair is the likely fix, and an annual service catches it before it does.

Why L&R
What you get from L&R in Hampshire.
We know Hampshire roofs
Hampshire is one of the sunniest counties in the country, and its solar is spread across very different homes. On the coast it is the terraces and semis of Southampton and Portsmouth, where salt and gulls are the everyday problem. In the north it is the big post-war and modern estates of Basingstoke, Andover and Farnborough, with simple, well-oriented roofs. In between are the market towns and villages of Winchester, Alton and Petersfield, with a good share of listed and conservation-area homes, and the New Forest, where trees shade lower rows and moss takes hold on north-facing slopes. Many of the systems we’re called to were fitted in the feed-in tariff years and are now on their original inverter.
