Solar in Sheffield
Sheffield is putting solar on its community buildings.
In September 2026 Sheffield City Council announced £350,000 from its Local Renewable Energy Fund to fit solar PV to nine community buildings across the city — Bradway Annex, Burngreave Vestry, Norfolk Park Community Centre, Firth Park Community Centre, Firth Park Library, Sharrow Lane (Grange Crescent), Verdon Street Community Resource Centre, Chapeltown Library and Tinsley Community Centre. The council expects the panels to pay for themselves in six to eight years through lower energy bills, which is much the same maths a Sheffield household is working with.
If your own panels went up during the feed-in tariff years, the biggest risk to that payback now is an inverter on its last legs or a fault nobody has noticed. A service picks those up; if the system has already stopped, solar panel repair is where to start.

Terraces and semis climb the valley sides from Hillsborough to Woodseats, so two identical systems a street apart can face different ways and see different amounts of sun.
