Solar in Leeds
Leeds has put solar on its council garden centre at Whinmoor.
In February 2026 Leeds City Council announced that more than 600 square metres of rooftop solar panels had been installed at The Arium, its plant nursery and garden centre at Whinmoor and the largest local authority-run nursery in the country. The panels are expected to cut the site’s energy consumption by 39 per cent and generate an estimated 119,294 kWh a year, with the gas boilers due to be swapped for air source heat pumps in the next phase. Funding came from Great British Energy through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Mayoral Renewables Fund, and the council says more than 30 of its own sites and more than 30 schools now run partly on solar.
Whinmoor, Roundhay, Headingley: Leeds has plenty of roofs that gained panels in the feed-in tariff years and have quietly been generating a little less each summer since. A service will measure what yours is actually producing, and if the inverter has failed outright, inverter repair gets the system earning again without touching the panels.

Why L&R
What you get from L&R in Leeds.
We know Leeds roofs
Leeds has more back-to-back terraces than anywhere else in the country, in Harehills, Beeston, Holbeck and Armley, and each one has a single roof slope, so the orientation is fixed and the array has to make the most of it. North Leeds is 1930s semis with hipped roofs, the outer villages towards Otley and Guiseley are stone, and there are large post-war estates at Seacroft and Middleton. The west of the city rises towards the Pennines and takes more rain, so moss and damp show up sooner there than on the flatter east side. Many of the systems we see went in during the feed-in tariff years and are on their original inverter.

Questions
The things people ask before they ring.
Not answered here? Call 0800 156 0191, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.
Do you cover Headingley, Horsforth, Morley and Wetherby?
Yes. Our engineers cover the whole of Leeds and the LS postcode area, plus Bradford, Wakefield and Harrogate. Call 0800 156 0191 or tell us your postcode in the fault finder and we’ll confirm cover.
Do you work on systems another company installed in Leeds?
Yes. We repair and service systems fitted by any installer, including installers who are no longer trading, and we work on any make of panel, inverter or battery. See solar panel repair and solar panel servicing.
What size solar battery do I need?
It depends on how much your panels generate, how much electricity you use and when you use it. A battery that’s too big never fills; one that’s too small empties before the evening is over. An engineer looks at your generation and your usage before we recommend a size, and you get a clear written quote. See battery storage.
