Solar in Coventry

Coventry’s community hubs have had a solar makeover.

In February 2026 Coventry Live reported on a £1.8 million programme, led by E.ON with Coventry City Council and completed in May 2025, that upgraded six public buildings across Foleshill, Henley Green, Coundon and Bell Green. Moat House Leisure and Neighbourhood Centre in Henley Green gained 600 solar panels alongside air-source heat pumps and LED lighting; Foleshill Library, the Families for All Hub in Foleshill and Coundon Family Centre also had panels fitted, with Bell Green Library and the Wilfred Spencer Centre getting lighting upgrades. Together the buildings now generate over 306,000 kWh of renewable electricity a year, enough for 113 homes.

A 600-panel array only earns its keep if it is looked after, and the same is true of a twelve-panel one in Radford or Earlsdon. A yearly service checks output, wiring and the inverter, and if the panels have picked up a film of grime from the ring road, cleaning brings the generation back up.

Why L&R

What you get from L&R in Coventry.

We know Coventry roofs

Coventry was rebuilt after the war, so a lot of its solar sits on 1950s and 60s semis and terraces across Tile Hill, Wyken and Willenhall, alongside the 1930s semis of Earlsdon, Coundon and Cheylesmore and the Victorian terraces of Foleshill and Stoke. Most of that post-war stock has simple, well-pitched roofs on sound timber, which makes for straightforward installs. Inland and low, the city is kind to solar; what we find most is dust off the ring road, pigeons under arrays and inverters reaching the end of their life. Many of the systems we’re called to were fitted in the feed-in tariff years and are now on their original inverter.
