Solar panel installation in Cumbria
New solar PV, with or without a battery, surveyed and fitted by our own MCS certified engineers, on a house, a farm or an outbuilding.
Solar panel repair in Cumbria
We find out why the system has stopped or dropped, and put it right, whoever fitted it — including installers who no longer come this far north.
Inverter repair in Cumbria
Inverters showing a fault code, tripping out or sitting dead on the wall. Same-week repair or replacement on SolarEdge, SMA, Fronius, Growatt, Solis, SolaX and other makes.
Servicing and battery storage in Cumbria
A yearly health check of the panels, inverter, isolators and wiring, and storage added to an existing array or fitted with new panels. See what a solar battery costs.
Moss, lichen and hill-country grime cutting the output? See solar panel cleaning and solar panel bird proofing. Not sure what the fault is? Start with solar panel repair. Useful guides: why solar panels stop working, our solar panel maintenance checklist and how long solar inverters last.

Solar in Cumbria
Appleby’s leisure centre is going solar, then off gas.
In March 2026 Westmorland and Furness Council announced the next phase of decarbonisation works at Appleby Leisure Centre, with £388,000 from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme and at least 12 per cent match funding from the council’s own capital budget. The gas boilers are being replaced with an air source heat pump and the plant room pipework insulated, following an earlier Sport England-funded phase that fitted 190 solar panels and triple glazing. Across four funded buildings the council expects to save 343.2 tonnes of CO2e a year, and Councillor Giles Archibald said it was “steadily advancing toward its target of reaching net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2037.”
Solar first, heat pump second is the order most Cumbrian homes follow too, and it only works if the panels are pulling their weight when the heat pump arrives. If your array has been up since the feed-in tariff years, a service shows what it is really generating, and adding battery storage lets you keep more of that output for the evening.

Why L&R
What you get from L&R in Cumbria.
We know Cumbrian roofs
Cumbria is the hardest county in England to keep a solar system healthy in, and one of the most rewarding when it is done right. Westmorland slate and stone roofs need the right hooks and flashings, not the standard tile kit; hill-country wind and snow load test every fixing; and the rain grows moss and lichen on panels faster than anywhere in the south. Inside the Lake District National Park, listed farmhouses and conservation villages need checking before anything goes on a roof, and ground-mounted arrays on a barn or a paddock are often the better answer. Above all, many systems fitted here a decade ago have never been serviced, because the installer was two hours away and stopped coming.

Questions
The things people ask before they ring.
Not answered here? Call 0800 156 0191, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.
Do you cover the Lake District, west Cumbria and Barrow?
Yes. Our engineers cover the whole of Cumbria — Carlisle, Penrith and the Eden valley, Keswick, Ambleside and Windermere in the Lakes, Workington, Whitehaven and the west coast down to Millom, and Kendal, Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness in the south. Call 0800 156 0191 or tell us your postcode in the fault finder and we’ll confirm cover.
Will you repair a system in Cumbria that another company installed?
Yes. We repair and service systems fitted by any installer, including installers who are no longer trading or no longer travel to Cumbria, and we work on any make of panel, inverter or battery. See solar panel repair and inverter repair.
Can I have solar panels on a slate roof or a listed farmhouse in the Lake District?
Usually, yes. Slate roofs take panels with the right slate hooks and flashings rather than the standard tile kit. A listed building needs listed building consent, and in some parts of the National Park panels on a street-facing slope need planning permission, so we check before the survey and tell you where you stand. Where the house roof won’t work, a ground-mounted array or an outbuilding often will. See solar panel installations.
