Solar in Burnley
Solar and a battery helped Pendleside Hospice cut its carbon by two-thirds.
In July 2026 Pendleside Hospice, which cares for people with life-limiting illnesses, won the Green Award at the Pendle Business Awards, after being highly commended in the ESG category at the Burnley Business Awards earlier in the year. Since March 2025 the hospice has cut its gas use by 78 per cent, its electricity consumption by 20 per cent and its carbon emissions by 66 per cent, with much of that down to an advanced solar and battery system that has nearly halved its peak-rate electricity use and cut the cost per kilowatt hour by 10 per cent. Chief executive Helen McVey said the award recognised “the fantastic teamwork everyone at Pendleside Hospice has demonstrated in minimising the impact we have on the environment”.
A battery is what turns daytime solar into cheaper evenings, at a hospice or on a terrace in Padiham or Colne. If you already have panels, battery storage lets you use more of your own generation when electricity costs most; if the system is older and output has slipped, a service shows what it is really producing, whoever fitted it.

Why L&R
What you get from L&R in Burnley.
We know Burnley roofs
Burnley and Pendle are stone country. Terraces of local sandstone with slate roofs fill Burnley Wood, Daneshouse, Rosegrove and Burnley Lane and carry on through Padiham, Nelson, Brierfield and Colne, built for the weavers of the cotton mills. Slate needs the right hooks and flashings rather than a standard tile kit, and narrow roofs broken up by chimney stacks need shading planned in. Semis and newer estates in Briercliffe, Reedley and Whittlefield have simpler roofs that suit a full array. Up on the moorland edge around Worsthorne, Cliviger and Trawden, wind, rain and snow test every fixing and moss grows on panels fast. Many local systems went up in the feed-in tariff years and are now ageing.

Questions
The things people ask before they ring.
Not answered here? Call 0800 156 0191, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.
Do you cover Padiham, Nelson, Colne and Barnoldswick?
Yes. Our engineers cover Burnley and the whole of Pendle — Padiham, Hapton and Read to the west, Nelson, Brierfield and Barrowford to the north, Colne, Trawden and Foulridge beyond them, and Barnoldswick and Earby in West Craven. Call 0800 156 0191 or tell us your postcode in the fault finder and we’ll confirm cover.
Will you repair a system in Burnley that another company installed?
Yes. We repair and service systems fitted by any installer, including installers who are no longer trading, and we work on any make of panel, inverter or battery. See solar panel repair and inverter repair.
Can I have solar panels on a stone terrace with a slate roof in Burnley?
Usually, yes. Slate roofs take panels with the right slate hooks and flashings rather than the standard tile kit, and on a narrow terrace roof the survey looks closely at chimney stacks and anything else that shades the array. We check the condition of the slates before recommending anything. A house in a conservation area or a listed building can need planning permission or consent, so we check before the survey and tell you where you stand. See solar panel installations.
