Solar panels in Halifax — installed, repaired and serviced by one team
In the town and across Calderdale — King Cross, Ovenden and Northowram, out to Brighouse, Elland and Sowerby Bridge, and up the valley to Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden — our own engineers install solar PV and battery systems, and repair and service systems fitted by any installer. We install our own systems and repair everyone else’s, so we know exactly how they fail.

Solar in Halifax
Halifax’s listed market and theatre are swapping gas for heat pumps.
In May 2025 Calderdale Council announced it had secured £5.1 million from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme to replace the gas heating in four of its buildings with low carbon heat pumps, with the council contributing over £800k and the work due to be completed over three years. Air source heat pumps are going into the Grade II* listed Halifax Borough Market, the Grade II listed Victoria Theatre and Sowerby Bridge Swimming Pool, and ground source heat pumps into Brighouse Swimming Pool, saving around 640 tonnes of carbon a year. Cllr Scott Patient, Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Housing, said the market and theatre were being made more energy efficient “whilst also respecting their important heritage.”
A heat pump runs on electricity, which is why solar and heat pumps so often go together. On a Halifax stone terrace or a Brighouse semi, solar panel installation gives a future heat pump some power of your own to run on, and battery storage carries the daytime output into the evening, when most homes use more.

Why L&R
What you get from L&R in Halifax.
We know Calderdale roofs
Calderdale is steep, stone-built and wet. Halifax is streets of sandstone terraces climbing out of the town centre under slate or heavy stone slate. In Hebden Bridge some terraces are four and five storeys high, built into the hillside with one house on top of another, the upper one facing uphill and the lower one facing down. The valley floor at Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd has flooded more than once, which changes where an inverter and battery should go. Roofs on the south-facing slopes do well; north-facing ones lose the low winter sun early. Brighouse, Elland and Lightcliffe add 1930s semis and newer estates, and everywhere the rain grows moss on the glass.

Not answered here? Call 0800 156 0191, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.
Do you cover Brighouse, Elland, Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden?
Yes. Our engineers cover Halifax and the whole of Calderdale — Northowram, Shelf, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe to the east, Brighouse, Rastrick and Elland down the valley, Greetland, Stainland and Ripponden to the south, and Sowerby Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge, Heptonstall and Todmorden up the Calder valley. Call 0800 156 0191 or tell us your postcode in the fault finder and we’ll confirm cover.
Will you repair a system in Halifax that another company installed?
Yes. We repair and service systems fitted by any installer, including installers who are no longer trading, and we work on any make of panel, inverter or battery. See solar panel repair and inverter repair.
My house in Hebden Bridge or Mytholmroyd has flooded before. Where should the inverter and battery go?
Somewhere the water can’t reach. That usually means the inverter goes above the level water has reached before, rather than in a cellar or a ground-floor utility room, and a battery has its own rules about where it can be fitted too. We plan the positions, cable runs and isolators around both on the survey. If an existing system has been under water, have it checked before it is switched back on. See solar panel repair.
