Solar in Norwich
Norwich has switched on 700 solar panels at Riverside Leisure Centre.
In June 2025 Norwich City Council switched on more than 700 solar panels across the roof and car park of Riverside Leisure Centre, home to the city’s public swimming pool, which had over 350,000 visits last year. £520,000 came from the government and Sport England’s Swimming Pool Support Fund, with the remaining £300,000 paid by the council, and the work also included a new roof and a modernised building management system. The council expects the panels to cut the centre’s electricity bills by around a third, and says the project builds on similar improvements at other council-owned sites as Norwich works towards net zero by 2045.
Around a third off the bill is roughly what a well-kept domestic system in Norwich should be delivering too, but only while every string is generating and the inverter is doing its job. A service confirms that; if output has dropped or the display has gone blank, inverter repair is usually the answer, whoever fitted the system.

Why L&R
What you get from L&R in Norwich.
We know Norwich roofs
Norwich and Norfolk are flat, open and among the driest and sunniest parts of the country, so a well-placed array here should be generating strongly. The housing runs from the Victorian terraces of the Golden Triangle and Thorpe Hamlet, through the 1930s semis of Eaton and Hellesdon, to the big post-war estates at Bowthorpe and Heartsease and the new homes at Cringleford and Rackheath. Shading comes from trees rather than hills. The county has more thatched and pantiled roofs than most, and pantiles need the right hooks; the coast throws salt and wind at anything facing the sea. Many of the systems we’re called to were fitted in the feed-in tariff years and are now on their original inverter.
