Solar in Buckinghamshire

A community solar farm near Buckingham is paying for local green projects.

In February 2026 Gawcott Fields Community Solar reported a visit from Buckingham and Bletchley MP Callum Anderson, who took a walking tour of its 4.17-megawatt solar farm on the outskirts of Gawcott, near Buckingham. The site is run as a community interest company, and excess revenue from selling its electricity to the National Grid is used to fund local projects. It has already paid for energy-efficiency upgrades at Gawcott Village Hall, an air-source heat pump for Tingewick Village Hall and grants for rooftop solar at Buckingham Golf Club, Buckingham Rugby Club and the town cricket club. The visit followed the Government’s announcement of record new funding for community-owned renewable energy projects, and Mr Anderson said: “It’s a win-win situation for our residents.”

Plenty of homes around Buckingham, Winslow and Aylesbury had panels fitted in the feed-in tariff years, and some have not been looked at since. A service tells you whether yours is still generating what it should; if output has dropped or the inverter has stopped, solar panel repair gets it working again, whoever installed it.

Why L&R

What you get from L&R in Buckinghamshire.

We know Buckinghamshire roofs

Buckinghamshire splits in two for solar. South of the escarpment, much of the county sits in the Chilterns National Landscape: flint-and-brick cottages with steep clay-tile roofs, beechwoods shading villages around Great Missenden and the Chalfonts, and 1920s and 1930s Metro-land semis in Amersham-on-the-Hill and Little Chalfont. High Wycombe’s Victorian and inter-war terraces climb steep valley sides, so access and scaffolding need thinking about before anything else. North of the hills, the Vale of Aylesbury is open clay country with thatched cottages, witchert walls in Haddenham and a fast-growing ring of new estates around Aylesbury and Buckingham. The open vale gets good sun, and the wind across it tests every fixing and cable run.

Questions

The things people ask before they ring.

Not answered here? Call 0800 156 0191, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.

Do you cover Aylesbury, High Wycombe and the Chilterns?

Yes. Our engineers cover the whole of Buckinghamshire — Aylesbury, Wendover and the Vale, High Wycombe, Marlow and Beaconsfield, Amersham, Chesham and the Chalfonts, and Buckingham and Winslow in the north. Milton Keynes has its own page. Call 0800 156 0191 or tell us your postcode in the fault finder and we’ll confirm cover.

Will you repair a system in Buckinghamshire that another company installed?

Yes. We repair and service systems fitted by any installer, including installers who are no longer trading, and we work on any make of panel, inverter or battery. See solar panel repair and inverter repair.

Can I have solar panels on a Chiltern cottage or a listed home in Buckinghamshire?

Usually, yes. Flint-and-brick cottages with clay-tile roofs take panels with the right hooks and flashings. A listed building needs listed building consent, and in a conservation area, which plenty of Chiltern and Vale villages have, panels on a street-facing slope can need planning permission, so we check before the survey and tell you where you stand. Where the house roof won’t work, an outbuilding or a ground-mounted array often will. See solar panel installations.
