Solar in Middlesbrough

Tees Valley is putting solar on its depots and control rooms.

In July 2025 the Tees Valley Combined Authority confirmed £444,738 from Great British Energy for three rooftop solar schemes on public buildings across Teesside. Fountain Court in Middlesbrough, home of the Urban Traffic Management Centre, gets a 199-panel, 102 kWp system; Tofts Farm depot in Hartlepool gets 348 panels rated at 148 kWp and expected to generate around 143,000 kWh a year; and Dormanstown depot in Redcar adds a further 133 kWp array producing roughly 118 MWh a year and saving about 22.76 tonnes of CO2e. Mayor Ben Houchen called it “another big step forward in delivering on our ambition to make our region a leader in clean, green growth.”

Teesside has plenty of domestic solar too, much of it fitted in the feed-in tariff years on the semis of Acklam and Marton and the estates of Ingleby Barwick, and much of it never checked since. A service shows what yours is really producing, and if the display has gone blank or is flashing a code, inverter repair is normally far quicker than replacing the system.

Our work

Why L&R

What you get from L&R in Middlesbrough.

We know Teesside roofs

Middlesbrough’s solar sits on three kinds of roof: the Victorian terraces of Linthorpe and North Ormesby, the 1930s and post-war semis of Acklam, Marton and Berwick Hills, and the big estates of Coulby Newham, Hemlington and Ingleby Barwick, where the houses are newer but the panels often are not. Industrial air along the river leaves a film on glass that cuts output until it is cleaned, and on the coast at Redcar, Marske and Seaton Carew salt and wind work on isolators, connectors and fixings. Many of the systems we see went in during the feed-in tariff years with a single string inverter that is now ageing.
