Solar panels in Newcastle — installed, repaired and serviced by one team
On both sides of the Tyne — Gosforth, Jesmond, Heaton and Fenham, out to Wallsend, Killingworth, Gateshead and the coast — our own engineers install solar PV and battery systems, and repair and service systems fitted by any installer. We install our own systems and repair everyone else’s, so we know exactly how they fail.

Solar in Newcastle
Newcastle’s pools are now partly solar powered.
In March 2026 Newcastle City Council published its Net Zero Newcastle 2030 Action Plan update for 2025, reporting that 68 per cent of the plan’s original measures are complete, embedded or superseded. Jesmond Pool is now generating its own electricity from 159 solar panels, cutting emissions by 13,793 kg a year, and Elswick Pool has been fully decarbonised. Across the city, energy upgrades saved 3,721 tonnes of carbon in 2024/25, 56 homes have had efficiency improvements through the Warm Homes Local Grant with another 36 under way, and the council says funding is in place to double that delivery next year.
Jesmond Pool’s array is brand new; many of the panels on Newcastle roofs went up more than a decade ago and have not been looked at since. If output has dropped or the display is showing a fault code, inverter repair is usually the fix, and a service catches the smaller problems before they cost you a summer’s generation.

Why L&R
What you get from L&R in Newcastle.
We know Tyneside roofs
A lot of Newcastle’s solar is on Tyneside flats and terraces in Heaton, Byker and Benwell, where two homes share one roof and it pays to sort out at the start who owns the panels and where the inverter sits. The rest is on the 1930s semis of Gosforth, Fenham and Kenton and the post-war estates out towards Westerhope. The North Sea is a few miles down the river: salt air and wind work on fixings, isolators and connectors, and gulls make a mess of arrays. Many of the systems we see went in during the feed-in tariff years with a single string inverter that is now ageing.
