Solar in North Wales

Mold Cricket Club has fitted solar panels and a battery.

In March 2026 Deeside.com reported that Mold Cricket Club had used a Flintshire community grant to fit an 11.7kW photovoltaic solar panel array and a 23.2kWh battery energy storage system, which the club estimates will cut its CO2 emissions by 2.098 tonnes a year. The club was one of 14 organisations in the county supported through the Flintshire Community Key Fund, administered by Cadwyn Clwyd and the Flintshire Local Voluntary Council, which received £463,393 from Flintshire County Council’s allocation of the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund for 2025-26. The grant also paid for a 30-metre astro turf pitch. Club chair John Williams said the funding would “reduce our annual electricity costs and allow us to utilise clean energy from a renewable source, which is fantastic.”

A battery beside the panels is the same pairing plenty of North Wales households are weighing up, because panels produce most around midday and most homes use their power in the evening. If your panels went up years ago, battery storage can be added to the existing array, and if generation has dropped, a service will show why.

Why L&R

What you get from L&R in North Wales.

We know North Wales roofs

Most older roofs in North Wales are natural slate, much of it from the quarries at Bethesda, Llanberis and Blaenau Ffestiniog. Slate is brittle underfoot, so roof hooks have to be fitted with care or slates crack. Stone cottages across Gwynedd and Anglesey are often whitewashed, with thick walls and small, steep roofs; Llandudno, Rhyl and Colwyn Bay have Victorian terraces and villas with bays and chimneys to plan around; and Flintshire and Wrexham have plenty of brick semis and newer estates. Along the coast and on Anglesey, salt air off the Irish Sea is hard on frames, clamps and connectors, and in the hills around Eryri, wind and rain test every fixing.

Questions

The things people ask before they ring.

Not answered here? Call 0800 156 0191, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.

Do you cover Bangor, Llandudno, Rhyl and Mold?

Yes. Our engineers cover the whole of North Wales — Wrexham, Mold, Flint and Holywell in the north-east, Denbigh and Ruthin in the Vale of Clwyd, Rhyl, Prestatyn, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno and Conwy along the coast, Bangor, Caernarfon, Llangefni and Holyhead in the north-west, and Porthmadog, Pwllheli, Dolgellau and Bala further south. Call 0800 156 0191 or tell us your postcode in the fault finder and we’ll confirm cover.

Will you repair a system in North Wales that another company installed?

Yes. We repair and service systems fitted by any installer, including installers who are no longer trading, and we work on any make of panel, inverter or battery. See solar panel repair and inverter repair.

Can I have solar panels on a slate roof in Eryri or on the coast?

Usually, yes. Natural slate takes panels well if the hooks are fitted carefully, and near the sea it is worth checking fixings and connectors at every service. Inside Eryri National Park, the Anglesey Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or a conservation area, panels on a roof slope that faces the road can need planning permission, and a listed building needs listed building consent. We check before the survey and tell you where you stand. See solar panel installations.
