Solar in Wrexham
Wrexham’s Ty Pawb is generating nearly half its own electricity.
In May 2026 Wrexham County Borough Council reported the first results from the 108 kWp solar PV system on Ty Pawb, the arts and market building in the city centre. Between January and March 2026 the panels generated 38,730 kWh, almost 42 per cent of the 92,450 kWh the building used, with 54,930 kWh imported from the grid and a small surplus of 1,207 kWh exported. The council said that was a strong result for the darkest quarter of the year, that output should climb through spring and summer, and that the system is on course to pay for itself sooner than planned.
Those winter numbers are a useful benchmark for a Wrexham household: if your own array is producing far less than its rated size suggests on a clear March day, something is wrong. A service will find out whether it is shading, a failed string or a tired inverter, and if you are exporting more than you use, battery storage turns that surplus into evening power.

Why L&R
What you get from L&R in Wrexham.
We know Wrexham roofs
Wrexham’s solar sits on the Victorian terraces of Rhosddu and Hightown, the stone and slate cottages of the old mining villages at Brymbo, Rhos and Coedpoeth, the inter-war and post-war estates at Acton, Caia Park and Gwersyllt, and the newer homes at Llay and Rossett. It is drier than the Welsh coast and sheltered by the Berwyns, but colder in winter, so frost, snow load and shading from mature trees on the older estates matter more here than salt. Systems out in the villages have often not been checked since they were fitted, and many are still on their original inverter from the feed-in tariff years.

Questions
The things people ask before they ring.
Not answered here? Call 0800 156 0191, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.
Do you cover Mold, Chirk, Llangollen and across into Cheshire?
Yes. Our engineers cover the whole of Wrexham and Flintshire, from Mold and Buckley down to Chirk and Llangollen, and over the border into Chester and north Shropshire. Call 0800 156 0191 or tell us your postcode in the fault finder and we’ll confirm cover.
My Wrexham installer has stopped trading. Can you still look after my system?
Yes. We repair and service systems fitted by any installer, including installers who are no longer trading, and we work on any make of panel, inverter or battery. See solar panel repair and inverter repair.
Is solar worth it in Wrexham’s weather?
Yes. Panels generate from daylight, not heat, and a well-placed array in Wrexham produces a worthwhile share of a home’s electricity over the year. What matters more is the roof: its direction, its pitch and what shades it. A battery lets you use more of what you generate rather than exporting it. An engineer surveys the roof and your usage before we recommend anything. See solar panel installations and battery storage.
