Common SolaX faults

SolaX inverters show faults on the display as a code and a short name, such as IE 13 Isolation Fault. SolaX’s hybrid inverters, which run a battery, and its grid-tied X1-Boost inverters use different numbering, so the model matters as much as the code. We install solar and battery systems too, so we know how these faults show up in real homes.

Isolation faults

IE 13 on SolaX hybrid inverters, or IE:00020 IsoFault on the X1-Boost G4, means the insulation between the panel wiring and earth has dropped too low. SolaX’s guidance includes checking the wiring insulation for damage, which means testing the array. That’s a job for an engineer.

Battery and panel voltage faults

Bat Volt Fault (IE 07) means the battery voltage is outside the range the inverter accepts, and PV Volt Fault means the voltage from the panels is too high. Both need measuring before anything is changed. Faults reported by the battery itself show as BE codes instead, and we can diagnose those too.

Backup power overloads

On a hybrid system with backup (EPS) power, IE 16 EPS Overload Fault means too much is plugged into the backup supply. SolaX’s advice is to switch off the high-power appliance and press ESC on the inverter. If it keeps happening with normal loads, or you see IE 29 EPS Relay Fault, the backup side needs checking.

Waiting

Waiting isn’t a fault. It’s a normal state while the inverter waits for the right conditions to start, and it’s common at dawn, at dusk and in low light. An inverter that never moves past Waiting in good daylight needs checking.

Repair or replace?

We always diagnose first: many SolaX faults are in the wiring, the battery connection or the settings rather than the inverter. SolaX error codes and what they mean

The codes below come from SolaX’s user manuals for the X1-Hybrid G4 and X3-Hybrid G4 (hybrid inverters) and the X1-Boost G4 (grid-tied). Other SolaX models, such as the X1-Mini and X1-Fit, aren’t covered here.

When to call an engineer

Call us if you see any of these:

  • An Isolation Fault that doesn’t clear or keeps coming back
  • Bat Volt Fault or PV Volt Fault
  • EPS overloads with normal loads, or an EPS relay fault
  • Any IE or BE code that isn’t in the table

Checking insulation, voltages and connections is work for a qualified engineer. Beyond reducing the backup load and pressing ESC, don’t open the inverter or disconnect its cables or battery yourself.

Frequently asked questions

What does Isolation Fault mean on a SolaX inverter?

It means the insulation between the panel wiring and earth has dropped too low, often because of water in a connector or a damaged cable. It shows as IE 13 on SolaX hybrid inverters and IE:00020 IsoFault on the X1-Boost G4. If it doesn’t clear, or keeps coming back, the wiring needs testing by an engineer.

Why does my SolaX backup power keep cutting out?

Check the display for IE 16 EPS Overload Fault, which means too much is plugged into the backup supply. Switch off the high-power appliance and press ESC on the inverter. If it happens with normal loads, or you see IE 29 EPS Relay Fault, call us.

My SolaX inverter says Waiting. Is it broken?

No. Waiting is a normal state while the inverter waits for the right conditions to start, and you’ll often see it at dawn, at dusk or in low light. If it stays on Waiting in good daylight, call us and we’ll find out why.

My installer has gone bust. Can you still help?

Yes. We don’t need the original installer to be involved, and we provide the certification and documentation for any new inverter we fit.
